The New York State Perspective: Priorities for 2009
Honorable Michael Balboni, NYS Deputy Secretary for Public Safety
Michael Balboni is the Deputy Secretary for Public Safety for the State of New York, which is the senior homeland security and law enforcement official in Governor David Paterson’s Administration. He was appointed to that cabinet-level position by former Governor Eliot Spitzer in January 2007. Deputy Secretary Balboni will share with participants the State’s perspective on the changing federal landscape; how that may impact New York State; and Paterson Administration priorities in the homeland security arena.
William Pelgrin, Director, NYS Office of Cybersecurity & Critical Infrastructure Coordination (Bio)
Led by William Pelgrin, the NYS Office of Cybersecurity & Critical Infrastructure Coordination is responsible for leading and coordinating New York State’s efforts regarding cyber readiness, geographic information systems (GIS) and critical infrastructure preparedness. NYS CSCIC works collaboratively with the public and private sectors to foster communication and coordination. Director Pelgrin will share with the participants the State’s perspective on the changing federal landscape; how that may impact New York State; and the Paterson Administration priorities in the homeland security arena.

Dr. Erickson will provide conference attendees with an overview of the role S&T plays in research and technology development to meet specific technology and capability gaps identified and prioritized by the DHS Component Organizations.
